Dr. Amy L. Cassidy

MD

Dr. Cassidy obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Psychology with a minor in Anthropology at The College of William and Mary in 2000. She then achieved her Medical Degree from The Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in 2004. She completed internship and residency in Anesthesiology at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in 2008. She is board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology since 2009. She completed a Certificate in Global Health from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 2018.

Dr. Cassidy held the position of Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina, USA from 2008 to 2010. In 2010, she left academic medicine to work as an Obstetric Anesthesiologist in private practice at the Women’s Hospital of Greensboro in Greensboro, North Carolina, USA. She remained in that position until 2016 when she returned to academic medicine. Dr. Cassidy is currently an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA. Her academic interests are obstetric anesthesia, teamwork skills and patient safety, peer review/quality improvement, resuscitation, and global health. Dr. Cassidy has engaged in global health work in Togo, Ghana, Rwanda and Bolivia. She is also an American Heart Association certified Instructor of ACLS, BLS, and PALS.

In 2019, Dr. Cassidy was awarded a Fulbright US Scholar Grant to teach and perform research in Anesthesiology at the University of Rwanda College of Medicine and Health Sciences in Kigali, Rwanda. She will spend approximately 10 months teaching anesthesia and conducting research at the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali. Her research focus involves peripartum sepsis, and aims to address high rates of maternal mortality related to infection.
