Dr. Ryan Egan

Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track)

Biography

Rylan Egan has a background in Educational Psychology, and experience developing innovative
approaches to quality improvement research in the health sciences. Graduating from Queen’s
University with a Masters of Curriculum Science, and a Doctorate from Simon Fraser University
he has expertise in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research. Rylan’s work and
interest in healthcare quality began with the co-development of a Provincial Quality

Improvement curriculum, since this time he has worked locally, nationally, and internationally
on healthcare quality initiatives. He has co-taught research methods with our Queen’s Masters
of Science in Healthcare Quality Program since 2013. He commences his new position as tenure
track Assistant Professor with Health Quality Programs at Queen’s University on July 1, 2018.

Teaching/Clinical Practice 
Healthcare Quality Teaching and Research
Rylan has taught methods courses in healthcare quality and education at the undergraduate
and graduate level. Hey has also developed and facilitated multiple workshops, seminars and
retreats.

Research Interests
Rylan’s research interests include systemizing and facilitating grassroots quality improvement
at the institutional and provincial level, developing approaches to enhance diagnosis and
treatment of endemic disease, and improving pain management in low and middle-income
countries. Rylan also has interest in developing Quality Improvement curriculum per se, as well
as curriculum to enhance practitioner’s quality of care in emerging and challenging areas such
as Medical Assistance in Dying.
